The ex-lawyer for the former president has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a legal ruling that questioned her legal standing to occupy the role.

Attorney General's Statement

The head of the Justice Department, the Attorney General, announced Habba's resignation on Monday. Bondi stated that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for Habba to perform her duties.

"But do not mistake compliance for surrender," she wrote. "The effort will now extend throughout the country."

Court Ruling

Habba's exit follows closely on a US appeals court determined that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is expected to impact many prosecutions in the state.

The appellate judges declared that a interim role that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Future Role and Reaction

It was also stated that she will remain at the DOJ as a senior adviser. They intend to seek further review of the disqualification, with hopes of a reversal.

On a social media platform, Bondi wrote that judges "must not override the President's choice of attorneys tasked with carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of criminal prosecution."

Performance in Office

Bondi praised her tenure and pointed out that under her leadership, the Newark saw a 20% reduction in criminal activity. She also stated that the southern city of Camden recorded its first summer in half a century free from homicides.

Legal Career

Habba, 41, originally became part of Donald Trump's lawyers in 2021. She later defended her client in his hush-money trial in New York last year, when he was guilty verdict on dozens of charges of financial record manipulation.

Earlier, her appointment to the top New Jersey post, Trump had revealed he was appointing her as his senior adviser in a potential future term, describing the lawyer as a steadfast ally and a dedicated fighter for justice.
