Citizens have gathered throughout the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state commemorations until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the families of people killed in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected across the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the discussions said that an evening round of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The source stated the day's discussions finished without significant progress, amid conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not resume combat after the opening period of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have still not deliver any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are striving to close the disparities between the both parties.

Critical Matters in Discussions

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The trade of the captives still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies provision
  • Future governance of the territory

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, young a woman - whose brother endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were lost their lives and dozens more were captured by Hamas fighters - shared: "No location appears as home anymore and until all the hostages are released no one will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to recover," she added.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to show their solidarity for the relatives of the hostages. Israel states 48 continue in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Protester one woman explained: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement needed for the abducted to come back home. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of Israelis prefer the war to finish in return for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the gathering, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of military attacks and explosions could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers said the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side district of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the evening arrives, the dread comes with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack last year, shared.

"We are afraid of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, particularly my smallest child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Every second we monitor the updates to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will resume to us."

Medical Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had taken in the remains of several people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli attack in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area indicated two more victims had been delivered. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for help to the southern area, medics reported.
