The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
