The fast bowler Set to Play a Major Role in the Ashes
The Australian skipper has secured over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.
Australia's selection chief the selector has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's Ashes series.
Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that remained unresolved.
Initial reports from team management suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on November 21 in Western Australia.
Bailey expressed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the prospects of being involved.
"It's clear that the window is narrowing and there are permutations around that, not only his injury, but additional elements," he commented.
"We're encouraged. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a major part. Ideally starting in Perth. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined the white-ball matches against New Zealand and India last month after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.
Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with setbacks in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 causing him to miss three Australian summers in four years.
Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to make the squad for the series.
He mentioned that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but acknowledged it was "becoming urgent" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.
Backup Options
In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of discomfort in his torso.
Bailey described it as a "minor" injury and stated that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "well-prepared to be ready to bowl."
"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the initial game as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.
"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. How he handles the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
