Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
