Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
