A man from Australia who jumped past a barrier and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.

Johnson Wen, 26, was given a sentence to more than a week in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities told Singaporean press.

Wen pushed through camera crews and charged at the performer and artist, who was attending the regional launch for the musical adaptation on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.

The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.

The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.

The singer has spoken of suffering from PTSD after a terrorist bombing at her performance in the UK city in spring of 2017 killed over twenty people and injured hundreds.

Throughout the court proceedings, the court heard he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.

He then made a follow-up try to breach security. Security staff stopped him and restrained him.

Wen later posted recordings expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "released."

Police detained him the following day and accused him with public nuisance, to which he confessed.

The Presiding Judge Christopher Goh was quoted by Channel News Asia as stating that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.

The actress has not addressed the case.

Erivo mentioned the event to a media outlet, saying that she "simply desired to make sure my colleague was secure."

"I'm sure he had no intention to us danger, but you cannot be certain with those things, and I wanted to confirm that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she said.
