Fast bowler Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over on Saturday.

The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.

The visitors have already lost key quicks one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 as a batsman as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, at the end of that over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
