Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
