It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a side that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not afforded the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her debut and seven international trophies have come from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Many contend the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and after that Healy was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was out Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success following win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those injuries have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is anticipated as her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
