The Gunners' boss feels assured that his side can continue to cope with fitness issues after confirming that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Havertz has been absent for months following an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return earlier in December, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when increasing his recovery and could not progress “the next phase.”
“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has more options,” Arteta said.

This news presents a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue off the bench. “We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at this level. And the instance of Mikel is just the best one.”

Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the next level and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”
Arteta expressed his eagerness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his nature. I see him suffer while sidelined.”
